Polar bear and the Romanzof mountains of the Brooks Range, Arctic, Alaska. Canon 5D Mark III, 500mm w/1.4x (700) 1/800 @ f/5.6, ISO 400. Stitch of three images.
As a mammal, the polar bear is the lord of the Arctic. Powerful, solitary, beautiful. This is one of my favorite photos from the 2013 photo tour last October. The bear pauses while walking across ice recently frozen in a bay, as the Romanzof mountains of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the Brooks Range loom in the distance.

powerful image, love it!
Sue, having been there, you can add the space around this scene which is impossible to fully convey in a picture!
so true, but stitching does help to accomplish the goal of sharing the scene – love the options we have (just takes a little more foresight to know to do well). Love that you have always told more stories in your images!
great shot Patrick
