The gear bomb went off in my office. Packing for one month for both water and land excursions, without resupply along the way is no small task.
The past week has been tasked with preparing my office for my upcoming 5 weeks absence, and parallel planning and packing for a 28 day rafting trip down the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon. There is no connectivity along the way, which means you won’t hear from me on this blog until late March. At which time, I hope to have some photos and stories to tell of a primordial and epic region of the North America.
As for camera gear I’m going simple and light – relatively speaking. Canon 5D Mark II, 14mm, 17-35mm, 24-105mm, 70-300mm DO, a tiny tripod, 7 batteries, a cable release, and a few filters. Now the big task, getting all of this stuff in two bags!
I’ll be back to sharing images in latter March, see you on the other side.

Exciting trip!
Looking forward to see some pictures and read stories in March!
Hope you have a excellent time in the wild!!
Regards
Leiv Arne
Have a good and safe trip, Pat
Patrick have a wonderful trip!!
We have booked Antarctica AGAIN for 2013-14; hope your are there too!!
Patrick, you cannot be going with only one body; you must take two 5D2s.
🙂
Wow, you’ve been traveling a lot this winter! Have you caught any good northern lights this past winter? Last night they were fantastic around 10:45 PM. The climax of auroral displays never ceases to put me in awe.
Anyway, enjoy your trip! Sounds like it will be an adventure, to say the least. I hope you return with some great photos, and no stories about losing camera equipment in the river. 🙂
Have a blast on your trip. A group of friends from Cordova just did that trip in November. BTW, congrats on the Bing cover image today (ice sculpture).
