I’ve been developing a new page on my website titled “alaska photo galleries” and a section includes some flash galleries which include 100 favorites of 2008. In addition, there are favorites form previous years as well. Looking back on a year’s worth of travels and images provokes lots of memories and grand sights from across Alaska’s landscape.

Some absolutely stunning shots there Patrick. I am constantly checking out your blog, and the images that has impressed me the most this year is your autumn landscapes with wildlife from Denali. The raven shot is very strong. I have just got back from the Antarctic and have posted some images on my blog if you haven’t seen them. Quit happy with the trip. My next is to Spitsbergen in march for winter light and polar bears.
All the best for the next year.

Patrick, these pictures are unbelievable. Makes me want to return to Alaska and see some of the things I missed last time around!
Hope you are doing well.
Pat,
Alaska is a bit addictive to many people, as a friend of mine once said “Alaska won’t give up all her secrets in one visit”. Years are not enough to sample all the great locations. Let me know if you plan a return visit and I can point you to some hot spots.

Patrick, we have thoroughly enjoyed not only your outstanding images, but tips on photographing Alaska. We are leaving Miami, Florida 8/30/2012 for Anchorage with 14 days of mixed itinerary starting in Denali and ending in Brooks Fall. We did a similar trip 3 years ago to Inside Passage, Admiralty Island, Gustavus, Haines, Haines Junction and felt that we packed everything but the kitchen sink so as not to miss out on any photo ops, but this got quiet tiring!!! We will be doing 3 days of camping and the rest via volkswagen bus – the question is – is my Cannon 600 f4 practical as I won’t be trekking with it? We seem to share the same tastes in our other lenses. We will probably leave the 300s f2.8 home due to space. It would be great getting up with you if you are around, after we get our itinerary. Our main focus here in FLorida has been birds and dolphins with our work displayed at US Fish & Wildlife’s J N “Ding” Darling NWR in Sanibel Island for the last 4 years. We jumped around in your website and picked up some very useful hints, for which we are very appreciative! Again, your work is outstanding and like your verbiage said Alaska is not likely to show all her secrets at once. I am sure we will need a vacation from this trip. Any help you can give us reference our gear would be greatly appreciated! Yours truly, Dick Fortune & Sara Lopez
Dick,
Thanks for your comments. Regarding the 600mm lens, I consider that lens a more specific, rather than general lens, due to it’s size and weight. I use the 500mm as an all around super tele, and would recommend that for the locations you are going. I hate to leave home without it. If you don’t have that as option, you could consider the 300mm w/1.4 and 2x as a versatile option. Good luck on your Alaska journey.
