A Change in Seasons

DIGITAL COMPOSITE: Boreal forest of aspen trees in four seasons, Fairbanks, Alaska. Canon EOS 3, 24mm prime

Snow is falling in Fairbanks right now, and autumn drifted by a few strong weeks ago. The change of seasons brought this photo to mind. Some argue that Alaska has two seasons, some argue three, few argue four. Spring happens very fast, as does autumn, and the leaves can burst forth in spring faster than they fall of in autumn. Years ago, I played around with the concept of a four-season-image. This was back in the film days, and my subject may have been less than perfect to start with. The location was near my home, perhaps 6 miles away, which made it easier to access when coordinating the timing for each season and each shot.  I used a 24mm prime lens, and remembered my tripod location (assisted by a photo of the previous picture that I carried along). With a little alignment tweaking in Photoshop, and some blending, the image worked–sort of. It is a great concept, done better by others for sure. I’ve sold the picture a number of times, but always think some mountain scene would ideal, dealing with sky control could be a challenge. Has anyone else out there worked on this idea? If so, I’d enjoy seeing the photo.

  • Patrick - Troy, those “almost” seasons are so good, but so short.November 11, 2009 – 9:06 amReplyCancel

  • steve greer - Your recent Sarah Palin vs Nature blog has created much stir among my friends. Your clever words and insightful thoughts never cease to expand my perception, which I call my reality. With bated breath and whispering humbleness, I await your responses to the 2 remaining comments.November 11, 2009 – 8:37 amReplyCancel

  • Troy - Creative Pat! There are only two seasons in Fairbanks though. Snow and that little time between snow.
    Neat composite, looks like a nature color pallet.November 11, 2009 – 8:08 amReplyCancel
