Boreal forest & Aspen trees, Fairbanks, Alaska
I've always thought that the ability to capture beauty on
film need not necessitate traveling to faraway lands. This
aspen forest is just down the road from my home in Fairbanks.
Autumn generates splendid colors in the boreal forest underbrush.
The red high-bush cranberry leaves give a vibrant feel to
the scene. Early in my career I met a large-format landscape
photographer who was emphatic about the importance of a foreground
object when using wide-angle lenses.
Here the trunk and leaves help lead the eye into the scene.
I have revisited this location often and have taken photos
there in all seasons, combining them digitally into one image.
