Eshamy Stream, Prince William Sound, Alaska
Eshamy Stream flows out of Eshamy Lake and into Eshamy Bay, located
on the western shores of Prince William Sound, the world's northernmost
temperate rainforest. The clear, pure water is a refreshing sight.
The Sound has been revealed to the world due to the Exxon oil
spill in 1989 that spoiled life on land and sea. In spite of this
tragic event, it remains one of the world's grand scenic wonders.
I've accessed this stream on a number of occasions, since it
is a favorite hike and yields amazing photo opportunities. No
roads will take you there however, access is by air or water only.
The fluid feel of this image is attributed to the long shutter
speed, which blurs the water into a creamy white spray. To achieve
this look, I used a two-stop neutral density filter. This filter,
which screws on to the end of the lens, restricts the amount of
incoming light, and therefore requires more time for a proper
exposure. That little bit of extra time is just enough to make
this scene work.
