On May 3rd, 2001, I descended into a sea of children at an orphanage
in Mozambique, Africa. Five hundred kids, full of energy and
personality.
Iris
Ministries, a nonprofit
Christian ministry to the poor of Mozambique was the parent organization.
 The weeks following included immersion into language, culture
and children, which left no moment without stimulation. While
my initial intent was not exclusively photographic, I did attempt
to capture the hearts of the children through a lens.
As vibrantly photogenic people, portraits of the children became
easy once enough Portuguese language was learned to stay their
unending enthusiasm for being photographed! There is far more
to say regarding Mozambique and the good work of Iris Ministries,
but these images speak in their small and colorful way.
