About the authors

SHELLEY GILL is the author of many acclaimed picture books for children and young adults, including Big Blue and Sitka Rose. When she’s not swimming with a blue whale, riding a mule, or cruising with brown bears, she’s swinging in a hammock on her homestead in Homer, Alaska.

PATRICK J. ENDRES lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he works as a freelance photographer, blending his interest in nature with a love of the visual arts. His photographs have been widely published, appearing in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, National Wildlife, National Geographic Traveler, Time, and numerous other publications.
