The smallest country in the rugged Andean highlands, Ecuador has an array of vibrant indigenous cultures, well-preserved colonial architecture, otherworldly volcanic landscapes and dense rainforest. And all that in a nation no bigger than the US state of Nevada. I've been to Ecuador a few times, mainly in transit to other South America destinations, but it is a diverse and richly endowed little country. From bird life, to landscapes and cultural heritage. Many people pass through on their way to the Galapagos Ilsands, also owned by Ecuador, but there is much more in the little country to hang around and explore.
